I am excited to offer Gong Baths at the Studio. This beautiful form of sound meditation will leave you feeling completely relaxed and reconnected. I was first introduced to gongs in 1998 and have finally begun to use these powerful instruments in a therapeutic way. I often get asked what a Gong Bath is (don't worry you stay fully clothed!) - they have this title as you are literally bathed in sound. The vibrations from the gongs carry through you, resonating at a deep cellular level to facilitate deep relaxation.
Gong baths last for around an hour and there is no movement involved - just find a comfortable position either lying or seated and enjoy the sound.
I will be running Gong baths throughout the year, so please check under special events on the class booking page for further details.
I am running Gong Baths on the 3rd November, 12th November, 19th November and the 24th November all at 6.45pm in the Yoga Studio. Booking via the website on the book classes page.
I will be running two beginners yoga workshops on the 7th January 2018 and the 28th January. £16 per person, per workshop. The content will be repeated on both workshops, however some people still may like to come to both. These will be interactive sessions with plenty of time for questions!
From the 8th January Beginners and Improvers Yoga will be back on the timetable at 6.45pm on a Wednesday. This class is suitable for anyone new to yoga or for those who would like a little extra guidance in poses or perhaps a gentler class.
iRest Inspired Guided Relaxation (Yoga Nidra)
From 8th January I will be running two iRest inspired guided relaxation classes at the studio. These 40 minute classes will give you the opportunity to relax deeply and have been clinically proven to help people experiencing insomnia, depression, anxiety, PTSD, addiction and stress. They are also a wonderful class to add into your yoga schedule to promote mental wellbeing.
No experience needed. Non movement based class, all welcome.

If you come to one of my yoga classes you'll find you may get adjusted my be from time to time. This isn't necessarily because you're doing a pose 'wrong' - adjustments can be used to help effect profound changes in our practice that we might not ever explore on our own.
When your teacher changes the angle of your hand or encourages you to drop your shoulders they are helping you to change the neuro-muscular patterns that you have developed over time. If you always go into cobra with your shoulders scrunched up around your ears, repetition of this pose in this rather uncomfortable way leads to the establishment of patterns within your body that will not help you attain optimal health and flexibility. Yoga for me is a way to establish patterns of movement that are healthy, sustainable and fun. It has given me a way to explore my own movement patterns mindfully and offers a form of exercise which is accessible to a non-sporty person! Adjustments encourage the body to release established neuro-muscular patterns, give additional dimensions to a pose and help the fascia respond in a different way to their usual movement.
When I give my students adjustments, I am helping them to understand a technique, re-pattern their movement, or aiding them in grounding or deepening a pose. I hope that from a little hands on help you will be able to find extra dimensions in your postures you didn't know were there.
(*Thanks to Anna Robertshaw-Freeth for her excellent adjustments workshop I attended at the Freestyle Yoga Project in February.)
