Flower essences work on a subtle vibrational level, similar to homeopathy. The vibrational essence of the plant is transmitted to the water through solarisation (leaving the flower/water in the sun). The 'essence' of the flower is captured by the water, to which alcohol is added as a preservative.
I use flower essences alongside herbal preparations and have found they add another dimension to my remedies. You may have heard of 'Rescue Remedy' a Bach flower essence widely on sale in the UK and remarkably effective in calming people down in a crisis. There are combination flower essences available for a wide range of presentations including Jet Lag, Fear of public speaking, Menopause and Childbirth. My favourite combination essences are from Findhorn Flower Essences and I use their practitioner kit in my own practice.
Today I have been making my own essences from my small herb garden which I will add to my dispensary. Pictured are Borage, Angelica archangelica, Valerian and Wood Betony. After the essences are made I will take some time to trial them myself to discover the unique qualities each of these essences has.
